We analyzed 25 years of a real LinkedIn network.
Here is what we found.

25,547 connections. 30,145 messages. One real account, analyzed from its own official export. The numbers are not encouraging — which is exactly why they matter.

1El hallazgo que dueleThe finding that stings

Everyone assumes their LinkedIn network is an asset. It is. The problem is that nobody measures what shape it's in, and LinkedIn has no incentive to tell you: its business is selling you access to people you don't know.

So we took the boring route: we requested the official export of an account with 25 years of history, and counted.

5,233personas escribieron y nunca recibieron respuestapeople wrote and never got a reply
97.6%de las conversaciones llevan más de un año dormidasof conversations have been dormant for over a year
−96%cayó el volumen de mensajes entre 2019 y 2026drop in message volume between 2019 and 2026
50.1%tasa de respuesta cuando sí se escribe a la red de 1er gradoreply rate when you do write to your 1st-degree network
La red no se muere de golpe. Se muere en silencio, y sin avisar.A network doesn’t die all at once. It dies quietly, without warning.

Solo agregados.

We care more about being believed than about impressing. This is exactly what we did:

  1. The source. The official data export LinkedIn hands the account owner on request. Free, legal, and only the owner can ask for it. Zero scraping, zero third-party tools.
  2. The files. Connections.csv (connections with connection date) and messages.csv (full message history, with conversation id, direction and date).
  3. The count. Grouped by conversation, determined who wrote last and when, and matched each conversation to its connection. No estimates: rows counted.
  4. Anonymization. No names, companies or message content leaves this page. Aggregates only.
Honest limit, and the most important one: this is a single case. One B2B network, in Mexico, 25 years old and heavily used. It is not a representative sample of LinkedIn and does not claim to be. It is a deep cut of one real network — and most LinkedIn studies you will read do not even have that, because nobody else can request this data.

Two rows deserve a pause.

Only 3.9% of connections carry an email. Anyone who thinks their LinkedIn network is an email list is in for a surprise: it isn't. It is a network of conversations, and that is where the value sits.

The median conversation is 2 messages long. One out, one back — and that's it. The vast majority of contacts never got past hello.

Every figure comes from a direct count over the full history. The drop from the peak (2019) to the last complete year (2025) is 95.9%.

And an honest nuance: 2026 already has 427 messages in seven months — above all of 2025. The decline bottomed out and there is an early rebound. We are not hiding it: the point is not that the network is dead, it is that it ran seven years below capacity.

What this does NOT mean: that the person left LinkedIn. They stayed connected, kept accepting invitations, kept showing up. What stopped was conversation. The network grew while the relationship went dark.

5Las tres deudasThe three debts

Sorting conversations by who spoke last and how long ago, three piles appear. All three are money sitting still:

1. Te escribieron y nunca contestaste — 5,2331. They wrote and you never replied — 5,233

Five thousand two hundred and thirty-three people reached out and were left waiting. They are not strangers: they are first-degree connections who accepted you and chose to write. 78 of them did so in the last 90 days.

2. Escribiste tú y te dejaron en visto — 5,1242. You wrote and were left on read — 5,124

Here the silence is on the other side — but half of these are not a "no": they are an "I forgot".

3. Relaciones fuertes que se durmieron — 1,4493. Strong relationships gone dormant — 1,449

Contacts with long, reciprocal history and not a word in over a year. They are the most valuable and the easiest to lose, because nothing warns you they are cooling off.

El 97.6% de las conversaciones de esta red llevaba más de un año sin una palabra.97.6% of this network’s conversations had gone over a year without a word.

6El dato que cambia la conclusiónThe number that changes the conclusion

So far this reads like an autopsy. It isn't. Because when that same person did write to their first-degree network, the measured reply rate was 50.1%.

One in two. Compare that to a cold message to a stranger — 5% to 10% depending on the industry — and the size of the waste becomes clear: the most effective channel this person has is the one they stopped using.

7Qué puedes hacer con esto hoyWhat you can do with this today

Nada de lo anterior necesita comprar software. Puedes hacerlo tú:

  1. Pide tu archivo.
  2. Cuenta tus deudas.

None of this requires buying software. You can do it yourself:

  1. Request your file. On LinkedIn: Settings → Data privacy → Get a copy of your data. Ask for the complete archive, not the fast one: the fast one does not include your messages. LinkedIn takes about 24 hours and emails you.
  2. Count your debts. Open messages.csv and sort by conversation and date. Find threads where the last message is theirs. That is your list.
  3. Start with the last 90 days. In this network that was 78 people. Those conversations are still warm.
  4. Do not send a mass message. The reason first-degree replies at 50% is precisely that it does not feel mass-produced. Automate it and you kill it.
Conoce RASAnd if you would rather not do it by hand: that is exactly what we built. RAS takes that same file and hands you the three lists ranked by relationship value, with a suggested reply in your own tone. You copy, you paste, you decide — RAS never sends anything for you and never touches your account. See RAS

8Preguntas que nos han hechoQuestions we have been asked

¿Es legal analizar estos datos? Is it legal to analyze this data?

Yes. It is the file LinkedIn hands the account owner, by right. No scraping, no account access, no third-party tools. Only the owner can request it — which is why no data platform can replicate this analysis.

¿Por qué un solo caso? Why a single case?

Because each export can only be requested by its owner. There is no purchasable database of LinkedIn exports. We would rather publish one real, complete case with its method in the open than an invented average over data nobody can verify.

¿Estos números aplican a mi red?Do these numbers apply to my network?

We do not know, and be suspicious of anyone who says otherwise. What we do know is that the mechanic — conversations left unanswered and relationships cooling without warning — does not depend on network size. Your numbers are yours: they get measured on day one, from your own file.
